Welcome to Wool and Feathers

Wool and feathers website has been created to act as an outlet for rare breed wool, wool products and poultry. We run a smallholding as a hobby and have Rare Breed North Ronaldsay Sheep, Shetland Sheep, Rare Breed Chickens and some traditional poultry, along with a few ducks, geese and turkeys. We sell surplus poultry to individuals as pets or as breeding stock for those who wish to bring new bloodlines into their flocks. We have our sheep sheared each year and have some wool spun into 50g balls which is left in its beautiful natural state of colours and some made into sheets of felt. We also have a few raw fleeces for sale each summer for use by hand spinners or hand felters.

We are based in North Buckinghamshire, near Newport Pagnell and visits are by appointment only.

We are registered with DEFRA and are members of The Rare Breed Survival Trust (RBST), North Ronaldsay Sheep Fellowship and The Shetland Sheep Society.

Latest News......

March 2013 - New course date (11th May) available for FELTING COURSE... check out the Courses page and book your place!

November 2012 - Well almost another year complete. We are not putting the rams in with the ewes this year as we are overwintering all our lambs this year and we only have so much space for rotating them on the paddocks so need to be sensible. Have to say a year off from getting up several times in the night whilst they lamb is something that I won't miss for once. Xmas turkeys have grown extremely well and not been affected by the bad weather this year as much as the lambs or geese.

August 2012 - Well all the chicken courses have gone well this year, plenty of very positive feedback too which is lovely. Lambs still doing well although they have slowed down in growth rate now, must be all that rain!

July 2012 - The chicks have now got feathers, the geese are slowly getting theirs and the lambs are doing great. The smallholding is doing fine but the veggies in the allotment plot don't know whether to grow or not with all this strange weather, far to wet for most of them, shame about all this rain but at least the ducks are happy splashing around in every puddle they can find.

June 2012 - The goslings are now out from under the heat lamp and are enjoying the grass during the day and going into the shed at night to protect them from any foxes. They seem to be growing much faster than last year, funny to watch waddling around, then one runs after a fly or a bug and they all follow.

April / May 2012 - Lots of new lambs are bouncing round the paddock as we speak, the most we have ever had, mainly twins. I love standing looking at them, but it is very time consuming as you forget the time of day just watching them all playing together!

Dec 2011 - The new course dates have just been released onto the courses page and some spaces have been booked as vouchers as gifts for Xmas already!

Nov 2011 - The rams are now in with our ewes and fingers crossed we will have lots of lambs running round in the paddocks again next spring.

Sept 2011 - New date added 15th Oct 'Starting with Chickens' course due to demand. Also, the last few remaining buff orpington hens and 2 x cockerels for sale.

August 2011 - All the courses have been very successful from learning to keeping chickens for the newcomers to breeding poulrty and waterfowl and the Felting Workshop where students came along to learn the art of wet felting using wool from our own flock of sheep. A great day was had by all and another course date has been set for 12th November where Wet felting along with needle felting will be combined if students would like to learn either or both methods. If you are interested in booking a place please go to the course page for more info or email me for a course info sheet.

On the animal side of things the geese are growing fast up in the paddock and are well on course for Christmas, the Kelly bronze turkeys are still under heat for a couple more weeks before moving out into their portion of paddock and the shetland and jacob lambs are growing well on grass alone.

June 2011 - The 'Starting with chickens' and 'Poultry' course have been very poular and there are just one more of each course left to run for this year with just a couple of places left. Please contact me should you wish to attend and we will try to accomodate you. The Guniea fowl have now hatched and some are available as week old keets - see the Birds for Sale page for more information.

May 2011- Our next lot of chicks have hatched and are out of the incubator. By popular demand I have added an additional course in August - Learn to make felt - using fleeces from our own sheep. If you fancy having a go at this ancient craft please see the Courses page for further details. Only 4 places left, get in there quick!

April 2011 - Our chicken courses have got off to a good start but places are still available for courses later in the year, book early to avoid disappointment, please see our Courses page for more info and email me for a booking form. Our Shetlands have finally lambed and having been inside for a few days are now outside in the paddock bouncing around in the sun.

March 2011 - Incubation has started late due to the cold weather but we have now had great hatch rates so fertile eggs are now on sale along with a limited supply of day old chicks, please see our Birds for Sale page for details.
