Poultry & Quails
We keep various breeds of pure bred poultry. For breeding purposes we concentrate on Buff Opringtons because they are a beautiful show bird, Gold Partridge Wyandottes as they are one of the most beautiful bantams and make a great garden pet for someone who just wants a few backyard chickens, Light Sussex as it is a very familiar chicken that is still very popular and Ixworths as these are now an endangered breed but in fact they are one of the best dual purpose birds of which the hens lay almost as many eggs as a light sussex.
These are pictures of just a few of our chickens....

Quails
We keep Japanese and Italian Quails and they lay lovely mottled eggs. 4 or 5 quail eggs equate to a chicken egg when used in cooking. They are one of the best egg laying breeds of quails and lay in excess of 200 eggs in their first year.
We sometimes sell excess quails from breeding our unrelated birds. Its very important not to in-breed as there were only a few dozen quails originally imported into the UK.
They are small birds only approx 6 inches in size and have very attractive fleckly coloured feathering. They don't make any loud noises or calls like chickens or cockerels which is why they can be a favourite for people worried about not upsetting the neighbours, or someone who hasn't the space for a large chicken coop.
They can be kept in anything from a large rabbit hutch to an avairy but cannot be free ranged as they would just fly away.
We generally sell quail hatching eggs from March onwards and they have an incubation length of just 17 days. They can be easily sexed from 8-10 weeks old.
Please check our website 'Prices' page for whats availabe at present or email us to pur your name on our waiting list should you be interested in live birds or fertile hatching eggs in the future.
